Dave Young
April 29, 1945 – July 4, 2025

It is with great love, and profound sadness, that we announce the passing of Dave Young on July 4, 2025.

Dave is survived by his beloved life partner Sharon, and his dear sister Joan. He was a proud and loving father to his children, Cora-lee, Arliss, Marvin, Travis (Jen) Bailey (Terry) and Shandi. He was also a devoted grandfather to Caitlyn, Sam, Jenna, Lennon, Koby, Sophie, Savanna, Justyce, Riley and Summer and a cherished great-grandfather to many. Dave will also be lovingly missed by his sister in-law Sandy and brother in-law Glenn with whom he was close. His memory lives on in each of them and in the stories, laughter and lessons he so generously shared.

Dave was more than a skilled carpenter. He was a gentle-natured soul, a storyteller, and a jokester who could fill a room with laughter just by being in it. With an easy smile, Dave had a gift for lifting spirits and making others feel at ease whether through a witty joke, a well-timed tale, a tune on any broken instrument around, leaving everyone in awe or just his warm presence.

Dave lived a life of quiet strength, purpose, and creativity. His craftsmanship became his legacy not only in the precision of his work, but in the love he poured into every project. His hands built more than walls; they built memories, places of comfort, and lasting beauty. Throughout Lake of the Woods and Kenora, Ontario, his mark can be found in the camps, cottages, and structures he helped create, each one bearing the signature of his perfectionism and passion.

But of all his accomplishments, Dave was most proud of the home he built for his daughter, Shandi. Over more than a decade, he devoted his time, care, and creative spirit to shaping a home from the ground up, a true labor of love. Every nail, every board, every corner of that house holds a piece of his heart. It is more than a home, it is a lasting tribute to the man who built it with vision, dedication, and immeasurable love.

Dave’s love for his family was the foundation of everything he did. He poured his heart into being the best at what he did with quiet pride and joy.

Dave’s memory will live on not only in the wood and walls of the places he built but in the lives he touched, the laughter he sparked, and the love he gave. His legacy is etched into the grain of every project, every smile he inspired, and every heart he held close. He will be forever missed, but never forgotten

“The Carpenter’s Rest”

He laid down tools, his work complete
A life well-built, both strong and sweet
With hands once rough from wood and nail,
He shaped the world with quiet skill

No grand design, no fame he sought
just honest work and steady thought
Each beam he placed, each board he bore
Still holds his heart forever more

He built not only walls and floors,
But love and life behind closed doors
A father’s strength, a neighbour’s grace
A steady soul in time and place

The saw now still, the hammer hushed
The voice that calmed now turned to dust –
Yet in the homes he left behind
His spirit lingers, warm and kind

So rest dear craftsman, take your ease
Your labour done, your soul at peace
Your legacy, in wood and stone,
Will stand long after you’ve gone home

Cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time.

A “Celebration of Life” will be planned at a later date.
