The IISD-Experimental Lakes Area between Kenora and Dryden, has brought back it’s artist-in-residence program this summer.
Artist Bea Martin was selected to take part, and is spending the week out at the ELA.
She says in addition to drawing and painting, she’ll tag along and see what experiments are being done.
“I’m going to join a group of scientist that studies toxicology in snails,” explains Martin.
“Then another morning I’m going to join a group that studies pike fish and they make pike fish vomit and they study the vomit!”
Martin adds it’s a good chance to look at science from a different perspective.
“This is a great opportunity to bring awareness. Like, if you are a child, and you think science is just being stuck in a lab. The people I’ve got to meet so far, they are super-interesting. They spend the whole day outdoors doing crazy research.”
Martin, who is from Richmond, BC, says she has a background in medical studies and is doing some sketches that can illustrate her time at the ELA
