KPop Demon Hunters hits the big screen

The No. 1 movie trending on Netflix right now — KPop Demon Hunters — is making its way to the big screen in Kenora over the weekend, which comes as a big surprise.

The original Netflix film was officially released on June 20 and, since then, it has continued to gain popularity.

As a Korean-Canadian, it’s really heartwarming to see films that represent Korean culture gain traction — whether it’s through the songs, the art style or the storyline.

KPop Demon Hunters is an animated film that revolves around three characters — Rumi, Zoey and Mira — who are in charge of saving the world from demons using their voices.

The best part of the film, in my opinion, is not the storyline but the soundtrack. The film features a few Korean songs as well as its original score. Some of those songs include, “Golden,” “How It’s Done,” “Soda Pop,” “Takedown,” and “Your Idol.” Of those songs, “Golden” is currently No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week of Aug. 23.

The first time I watched the film, I wasn’t expecting much, but once I heard the soundtrack, it lived in my head rent-free for a couple of weeks. After you watch it, you’ll be singing it in the shower, in your car on the way to work and in your room.

So if you’re looking for a movie to watch alone or with the kids, this is an amazing film to catch in theatres or at home.
