City council still mulling over budget options

Kenora City council is expected to approve it’s Capital spending plans for 2024 this morning.

Council will be holding it’s monthly committee of the whole meeting.

Mayor Andrew Poirier says the 4.22 percent target being looked at for a budget increase isn’t set in stone right yet.

“Maybe it’s that number that’s put forward or maybe something a little less,” explains Poirier.

“We are still waiting on a couple of organizations and what their funding ask is going to be for 2024.  So that’s kind of where we’re at.”

Poirier adds that at this point they are only comfortable approving part of the budget.

“We are looking to move the Capital Budget forward at the Committee of the Whole and then to council for a vote of council at the December Open meeting.”

Poirier says council has agreed to defer approving the operating budget until all their costs are known, including external agencies like the Kenora District Services Board, the Health Unit and the Kenora District Homes for the Aged.
