The Canada Water Agency is making a couple of grants available for several water bodies in the nation including the Great Lakes, Lake of the Woods and the Lake Winnipeg drainage basin.

Todd Sellers from the Lake of the Woods Water Sustainability Foundation says they have been waiting for word on the funding since the Agency was first announced this past spring.

“We’re looking at both programs, certainly in our role in the broader Lake Winnipeg basin watershed, the work we do in Lake of the Woods with our partners has relevance to that program,” explains Sellers.

“I also think we’re going to look at the Lake of the Woods specific program.”

Sellers says the grants fall in line with the work they are already doing.

“Both are are targeting projects that support nutrient reduction, collaborative governance and planning and Indigenous engagement.  The Lake of the Woods specific program is focused more on the priority nutrient loading area of the Rainy River sub-basin.”

The funding was first announced in the 2023 budget, but details are just being released.

The deadline to apply for the grants is February 15th.
