Kenora city council is expected to approve it’s operating budget in the next few weeks.
Mayor Andrew Poirier says they have been talking to the province about a further reduction in their policing costs, which would impact the budget.
“We are looking at some additional relief. It’s information that will be brought forward in January,” says Poirier in a year-end interview.
Poirier adds that he’s updated council on his recent discussions with the Solicitor General, and he’s hopeful there will be a long term solution to their high policing costs.
“They’re aware because I did provide the information that I have at this time and they’ll be further discussions in January.”
Poirier says a 5% reduction in the OPP costs are already factored into their operating budget.
