LOWBREWCO unveils expansion plans

Lake of the Woods Brewing Company has released details on it’s latest venture.

The Brewers Village is currently being developed on Valley Drive beside C and C Service.

President of the company, Taras Manzie says they have ambitious plans for the facility, including beer brewing.

“It’s a natural evolution for our business to be in this location,” Manzie told city council at their Committee of the Whole meeting this week.

“The project itself has a phased implementation.  So phase 1, get the manufacturing plant up and running as well as the Brewer’s Village.  Which is an outdoor community for ourselves to accept the public to provide commerce.”

Manzie adds that the Brewer’s Village will have a positive economic impact on the community.

“We expect with this expansion to bring 19 plus jobs, full-time equivalents to Kenora, that will occur through manufacturing, packaging, operations, administration, finance, sales, logistics, hospitality, and tourism events.”

Manzie says the renovated building will also include a tasting room, retail, meeting rooms and conference space.

The price tag is $8 million and the city is being asked for $375,000 through it’s new Development Contribution By-law.

Manzie says the currently location of LOWBREWCO, in the old fire hall on Second Street South, will still continue to operate.

Operation will change though from brewing beer to a distillery on site.
