The family of Ross Peterson, sadly announce his sudden passing on December 13, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he had lived since 1986. He was 77 years old.
Ross was born and raised in Kenora, son of Melvin and Jean Peterson. Growing up he spent much time on Lake of the Woods, camping and fishing and also was an active participant in many sporting endeavours. After high school he moved to Superior Wisconsin on a hockey scholarship. He met and married Marilyn Thompson and lived there until relocating to a warmer climate. He worked in her family’s business, as well as other vocational pursuits, until settling in to a long-standing job with the IRS in Las Vegas.
Ross had superior athletic skills in his youth, which were thwarted by a devastating motorcycle accident in 1981 leaving him in a wheelchair. Over the years he dealt with several health issues and was always very grateful for the support of his good friends, in particular Pat, Robert and George, as well as his little canine buddy Trixie.
Although travel presented some issues, he did enjoy trips to Hawaii and while in Las Vegas, several houseboat trips on Lake Mead and Lake Powell.
He enjoyed welding as a hobby and also a good game of pool or poker. His pool and poker buddies found him a challenging opponent. Ross always enjoyed watching NHL hockey and was delighted with his local Golden Knights. Ross was very knowledgeable on the current political situation in the US, and had very strong political views. Discussions with him on that topic were always very lively.
Ross was predeceased in 2021 by his wife Marilyn. He is survived by his brother Glen (Charlene) in Kenora, brother Warren (Sheila) in Thunder Bay, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
Cremation has taken place and a private ceremony will follow at a later date.
