Nora Edith Francoise Silk, 97, passed away in her sleep on January 26, 2024.
Nora is survived by her daughters Debbie Silk, Brenda Silk (Gilles Guenette), and Margaret Silk (Paul Warmbier), grandson Andrew Silk (Janice), and Cora-Rae Silk (Tim Parsons), and great grandson River Silk Parsons. She also leaves behind brother Peter Thomas and sister Rose Winters (Ed Winters), and many nieces and nephews.
Nora Silk (Thomas) was the third youngest daughter of John and Margaret Thomas. She is predeceased by her husband of 45 years William Silk, granddaughter Crystal Abraham, and 12 brothers and sisters.
Nora spent her life helping others in her journey. She began helping people working as a nurse assistant at The St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. She then moved to Kenora in 1950 to work in the Pediatrics unit of Saint Joseph Hospital. Then retired at 65 from the Detox Centre now known as the Morning Star. While working at Detox, she enjoyed working for John and Jill Turner helping to maintain their camp on Coney Island, until the age of 89. She continued volunteering at the Fellowship Centre, Jubilee and Knox Churches feeding and helping the less fortunate. She never asked for anything other than “Thank you”. Gram had many visits from family, friends and extended family Owen, Carys, Kyiah, Blakely.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 429 2nd Street South, Kenora, Ontario on February 10th, 2024 at 11:00am with luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers donations to It’s a Dog’s Life and Kenora Rainy River Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
