Margaret Celestine Savage (Chicago)
Margaret Savage of Kenora, ON. Passed away peacefully on Sunday February 4, 2024, at the Wiigwas Senior Centre with family by her side. She was 79 years old.
Margaret is lovingly remembered by her four children, Robert (Kris), Michael (Courtney), Colleen (Chris), Sophia (Jorden) and stepdaughter Melody (Tim). She will be greatly missed by her sisters Virginia and Theresa (Sean) as well as her Aunts Evlyn (Gary), and Marlene (Dean).
Margaret was predeceased by her husband Joseph Savage, her mother Pearl Chicago, stepfather William Savoyard, sisters Bernice Chicago, Delores Albany, Doris Joseph and her brothers: James Chicago, Norman Chicago, Gus Savoyard, and William Chicago.
Margaret was born on September 30, 1944. Upon leaving residential school in her teen years, she moved to Minaki to be with family members who has moved there from their home community of Lac Des Mille Lacs first nations. It was there that she met the man who would become her husband. They had one child from their union.
In later years she gave birth to three more children whom she raised as a single parent. Though time was often a struggle financially she raised her four children to adulthood, and they were her pride, who in turn made her a grandmother. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and were the lights of her life.
Left to mourn her are her grandchildren: Candance, (Carl) Bubby, Christopher, Danielle, Jaime, Jody, Jasmine, Jade, Alexandria, Gabby, Kyro, Raven, Mackinley, Avery, Sunrise, Kayleigh, Cadence, Michaela, Zachary, and Rayanne.
Great grandchildren: Thade, Pearl, Lucus, Christopher, Hunter, Truin, Zayor, Sierra, Makwa, Debwewin, Atlas, Novah, Lyrix, Draven, Linayah and Lazarus, Caleb, True, Martin, Olivia, Taylor, Caitlyn, Urijah, Killian, Kenton, Leah, Noah.
Nieces and nephews: Too many to mention, but they all held a very special place in her heart. Particularly Stacey who found her way into her life and her heart.
Margarets family would like to extend many thanks to the staff at Wiigwas Elder and Senior Care for all they did to make her final days as comfortable as possible.
Traditional Wake and visitation will be on Thursday, February 8, 2024 beginning at 12:00pm at the Minaki Community Hall, followed by a traditional funeral service on Friday, February 9, 2024 beginning at 11:00am with Elder Howard Copenace to officiating at the Minaki Community Hall with cremation to follow.
Pallbearers will be Chris Kabestra, Donny Albany, Marty Chicago, Macy Chicago, Brendan Albany and Lucas Savage.
