Trudeau defends Carbon Tax increase

The federal Carbon Tax increase will be going ahead as planned on April 1st.

That’s despite objections from several premiers, who want the federal government to scrap the tax hike.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sent an open letter to the premiers and territorial leaders.

He says while the price on pollution will go up, so too will the Carbon Tax rebate Canadians get.

He adds the Carbon Tax is revenue neutral for the federal government and has very little impact on the rate of inflation.

Trudeau also explains that if the provinces or territories want to implement their own carbon taxing system, they are free to do so, as long as it meets or exceeds the federal program.
