Ed Mandamin has been appointed as the new advisor for Indigenous Relations in Kenora.

His new role will open new relationships between the city and Indigenous communities and enhance an understanding of Truth and Reconciliation.

Mandamin is a member of Iskatewizaagegan #39 Independent First nation and Pelican Clan. On top of his degree in Native Studies, he is an author and public speaker who educates people on treaties, residential schools, and Aboriginal law and history.

“My spirit has been soaring since I was asked to join the City of Kenora,” said Mandamin in a release. “I am looking forward to working on building and developing strong relationships between the city and our Indigenous communities.”

He will work closely with Indigenous leaders, community members, council and the city to create partnerships, address concerns, and implement initiatives to promote cultural understanding and respect.
