Members approve merger of Copperfin and Northern Credit Unions

The merger between the Copperfin and Northern Credit Unions has been approved.

Members voted on the merger earlier this month, and the results were just released.

CEO of Copperfin Dennis Alvestad says they will be going with the name Northern Credit Union after the merger.

“The logistics of going through a name change just didn’t make sense,” explains Alvestad.

“Utilizing the benefits of coming together and using that to help members rather than, a multi-million-dollar exercise to do a name change across the board.”

Alvestad adds the goal is to merge starting in the new year.

“The actual legal date of the new credit union would be January 1st, 2025, so we have some time to work on integration, but we have a green light to really move forward with this new credit union.”

As part of the merger, the credit unions will be donating $15,000 to fight food insecurity in the communities they serve.
