James Gordon Lowe
November 12, 1951 to June 11, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Jamie Lowe announces his passing on June 11, 2024 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, with family by his side.

He will be forever missed by his sisters, Cathy Garrow (Wayne) and Judi Stevenson (Bob). Uncle Jamie’s memory will also be cherished by his nieces and nephews, Lesley (Kyle), David, Matt (Ashley), Andrew, Becky (Darren) and Tim; and great nieces and nephews, Adler, Jonah, Everett, Decklan, Annika, Landon and Holden. Jamie was predeceased by his father, Francis Gordon (Gord) Lowe and his mother, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Lowe and his furry best friend, Taffy.

Jamie was a lifelong resident of Kenora, graduating from Beaver Brae Secondary and spending the ensuing years employed as a pipe fitter at the local paper mill, where he forged life long friendships with many of his co-workers. With the mill closure, he was fortunate to be able to take early retirement, allowing him to spend more time pursuing his favourite outdoor activities. He always looked forward to ‘guest guiding’ at Maynard Lake Lodge, where he spent time with family and met many fellow guides and guests over the years who became valued friends.

He loved fishing, hunting and spending his summers at the family camp on Lake of the Woods, sharing his passion for the outdoors with his nieces and nephews. He fished with joy and intention; his trillionth cast was just as fun as his very first and when the day was done, he played a fierce game of cribbage. He enjoyed reading and in his later years, spent countless hours on the deck at camp, with binoculars in hand, appreciating nature.

Jamie was a strong man, both in physical stature and in character. He was a kind, generous, unassuming and gentle person and an outdoorsman at heart who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. Greatly loved, deeply missed, he will be forever in our hearts.

We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Brad Kyle and to the wonderful third floor staff at Lake of the Woods District Hospital for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jamie’s name to the Diabetes Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the palliative care department at Lake of the Woods District Hospital.

A celebration of Jamie’s life will be held at Smith Camps at 1:30 p.m., July 21st, 2024.
