Hospitality industry set to handle LCBO strike

You don’t have to worry about your favourite bar or restaurant being out of alcohol.

The LCBO has set up an online portal to continue servicing licensed establishments like bars and restaurants.

We have been urging our members in the last couple of weeks and the LCBO directly to them to ensure that they register on the online portal that the LCBO is operating with to order their beverage alcohol products,” said Tony Elenis President & CEO of the Ontario Restaurant Hotel & Motel Association. “Through that portal, they can order any limited amount of products and we don’t know what that limit is yet, but we do know that there is a threshold that they can order.”

He added that all restaurants should already be signed up.

While the LCBO may be limiting supplies small local businesses are also allowed to deliver to licensees.

“Ontario wines do deliver to licensees and they will continue to do so, and there are all also many small independent spirit companies that make vodka that make wine that are there to deliver, and hopefully we’ll see some growth in their business and support from the licensees after the strike is over,” added Elenis.

For the everyday person, the LCBO plans on opening certain stores on July 19, but the specific locations have not been announced.

This is the first strike in LCBO’s history.
