A high school student in Dryden has been named a finalist in an international contest that is sure to make Canadian handyman “Red Green” proud.

It is called the “Stuck at Prom” scholarship and the idea is to create a dress or tux exclusively from – Duck Tape.

Monica Walsh was up to the challenge and went to work. In the end, it took her 126 hours and 13 rolls of eye-catching colourful tape.

Inspiration behind her dress comes from the artist Romero Britto with bright colours and fun patterns.

The Duck Tape dress really pops with colour.

“My goal was for my dress to be unique, runway worthy, and push the limits of prom fashion,” explains Walsh.

Walsh went on to add she created this dress to stand out and her love for bright colours.

“Somewhere between grade 7 and 8 my friends mutually agreed that bright colours and fun patterns were out, except me. I still like having colour in my every day outfits as I think it adds life to the outfit and is a way to express my happy vibe.”

Her hard work put her in the running for a $15,000 scholarship, competing against four other artists.

To help Walsh win, you can vote for her dress here until Monday at midnight.
