The City of Kenora will have to pay almost $900,000 in insurance premiums this year.

That includes about $50,000 for cyber insurance and $6,300 to insure volunteer firefighters.

Director of Human Resources Roberta Marsh says the bill to cover municipal property, including buildings is about $748,000.

“We are reviewing actively, the way we’re insuring, or taking an active look at our buildings, our processes and really how we support and ensure appropriate levels of coverage in our community,” Marsh told council during her report during the Committee of the Whole meeting Tuesday morning.

“This report covers not only our general liability and property insurance, but also our volunteer firefighter coverage and cyber insurance.”

Marsh adds the insurance premiums represent a 14 percent increase over last year, or $97,740.

The effective date of the new insurance policy July 1st, 2024, to July 1st, 2025.
