Communities in the Kenora and Rainy River District are teaming up for a joint application to the latest immigration pilot project.
Ryan Reynard is executive director of Lake of the Woods Business Incentive Corporation says there are only 15 projects available for funding this time around.
“This increases our chances versus having two or three applications within northwestern Ontario,” explains Reynard.
“Through the CF (Community Futures) network, we’ve got a lot of tight partnerships, and we decided one application would probably be our best chance for success.”
Reynard expects there will be a lot of competition for the pilot programs.
“It’s going to be extremely challenging. We’re not fooling ourselves. It’s not super-likely that we’ll be selected, but we’ll put our best application in and see what happens. There’s just not a lot of communities that are going to be selected. ”
The joint application from the Kenora and Rainy River District will be competing against one from Thunder Bay, which opted to go it alone this time.
Reynard says the application for the immigration pilot is due next week, and the federal government wants any projects to launch by the fall.
