We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Mary Kelly (Aapoonhs), a beloved sister, mother, aunt, and grandmother, at the age of 78 on July 1, 2024. Mary passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. Born on April 23, 1946, in Kelly town and delivered by a midwifery grandmother in Minaki, Mary spent her entire life in Minaki, which she always considered home. Known for her warmth, vibrant spirit, and generosity, Mary touched the lives of many with joy and laughter during family gatherings. The memory of Mary lives on as a cherished and dedicated wife who deeply touched the lives of those around her. Her love for her family was truly immeasurable, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known her.

Mary created strong family relationships and bonds that will always be remembered. Mary loved her connection to the land and water around Jackfish Bay and Kelly Town. Mary enjoyed working at Rough Rock Lodge and Host Points Lodge. She was a seamstress who also enjoyed picking blueberries, wild rice, traditional medicine and fishing. She also enjoyed sharing stories about the history of Minaki. Mary loved singing with her siblings and participating in social activities with her friends and family. She will be deeply missed by many who knew her. Even though Mary may no longer walk among us, her spirit, love, and kindness will live on in our hearts forever.

Mary was predeceased by her auntie Cecilia Kelly, uncle Pat Kelly, mother Eva Keesick, father Joe Kelly and husband Rodrick Savoyard.

A wake service will be held on Thursday July11th, 2024, at the Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre will be during 10:00am to 5:00pm. A Traditional Cultural Service Officiated by Howard Copenace on Friday July 12, 2024, cremation will commence after the funeral service.
