A member of Kenora City Council isn’t happy with coverage of a shooting death at Anicinabe Park last month.
Bob Bernie, who is a former OPP officer, says some of the comments made in recent weeks is irresponsible.
“There has been much said since the incident took place, most of inaccurate, and mere speculation, quite frankly subjective clap trap,” Bernie said at the end of the council meeting last week.
“Much of the dialogue is coming the media, politicians, and community leaders, or those who call themselves community leaders, who in my mind are nothing more than grifters, pure and simple.”
Bernie remains critical of people that are speaking out about the incident.
“Whose livelihood relies on perpetuating a victim narrative, denying accountability and consequences, while sowing the seeds of division in our communities. Shame on all of you. Shame you.”
Bernie adds that the Ontario Special Investigations Unit is still looking into the shooting fatality and doesn’t think anyone should comment on the incident until the findings are released.
He says the remarks are his own, and he doesn’t represent the OPP or the Ontario Provincial Police Association or any other group.
On June 25th, 57-year-old Bruce Frogg was shot and killed by an OPP officer during a stand-off at the park.
