Carla Rae Cranston
January 15th, 1964-July 17th, 2024

With unbelievable sadness the family of Carla Cranston would like to share her passing surrounded by her loved ones at Lake of the Woods District hospital.

She leaves behind loving husband Glen of 39 years, children Meghan (Bryan) and Scott, daughter in law Janine Alcock as well as her Labs Marley and Sadie. She will also be remembered and missed by her grandchildren Xander, Aurora, and her handsome guy Ethan. She will be missed by her brother Ken Kowalik (Nadine), Sisters Cindy and Candace Kowalik, Brother-in-Law Terry (Kathy), Sister-in-Law Diane (Shawn Potvin) as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Ron and Isabel Kowalik, father and mother-in-law Gerry and Lorraine Cranston, brother-in-law Larry. She is also reunited with her son Cameron, whom she missed so much.

Carla was born in Kenora Ontario but grew up in Redditt Ontario. This is where she met the love of her life Glen, they were to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary this August. Carla was heavily involved in her children’s lives. She spent numerous years on the Keewatin Skating Club board as well as Lake of the Woods Minor hockey. She had been known to be very vocal at the hockey rink cheering her boys on as loud as she could. She was so supportive of all her children’s dreams whether it was in sports or music careers. She always had a thirst for education. As long as we can remember she was always taking some kind of course or upgrading. She just recently finished her HR diploma at Seven Generations Institute. She was dedicated to her studies and received honors in whatever she took.

Carla was a proud grandmother, she loved sharing stories of her grandkid’s adventures. She looked forward to her annual Sioux Narrows trip with Ethan where they would walk the beach together catching frogs and looking for fish. She was also known to be back at the rink cheering both Aurora and Ethan on during hockey games. Whether they could hear her or not she made sure she cheered the loudest and proudest. She always looked forward to their phone calls and visits.

Carla will forever be remembered as being a kind, compassionate and forever smiling person who we will miss always. She was a friend to all animals but really enjoyed dogs, cats, hummingbirds, and turtles. Many turtle rescues happened on the road out to Redditt. She also had quite the green thumb and looked forward to her garden every year, whether it be her deck garden full of tomatoes and peppers or her Redditt garden. She always had more then enough veggies to share with everyone, we will miss her homemade tomato soup.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Perch Bay Resort from 1:00-3:00pm.

The family would like to thank Charlene Melillo, ICU Staff, and Micheal on the third floor of the hospital for all their compassion and support during Carla’s short time there. We would also like to thank all the chemotherapy staff that supported her throughout her illness. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Lake of the Woods District Hospital, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

We Had a Wonderful Mother
One who never really grew old
Her smile was made of sunshine
And her heart was solid gold
We had a Wonderful Mother
And that’s how it will always be
We know she will also be watching over us
