Childcare fees to fall again in 2025

The provincial government is putting a cap on childcare rates.

The new $22.00 per day fee will take effect in January 2025 and impact about 44% of all childcare spaces in the province.

It comes as the province works out a new funding model for service providers, also to kick in this January.

The ministry says the funding approach prioritizes a simple and easy-to-administer system and funds operators based on the true costs of operating child care.

Childcare rates have been dropped since 2020 on a phase-in approach to match the federal government’s $10 a day rate by March 2026.

The Ministry of Education says a change in the fee will save families a combined $300 million next year.
