The Kenora Cat Shelter is at full capacity and not accepting anymore cats.

In a Facebook post today, the shelter informed the community they are in a state of emergency.

They are currently caring for 118 cats and kittens and run entirely on donations, with expenses up ranging from $12,000 to $15,000 per month.

Caretaker at the shelter, Lisa Lyle, asks residents of Kenora to do their part.

“We’re telling people if you find a cat, you’re now a cat rescuer. If you want to surrender, you need to take responsibility and find that cat a home,” said Lyle.

They also advise people to spay and neuter pets to prevent situations like these.

“We are begging people to spay and neuter their animals,” said Lyle. “We cannot sustain a population we have coming in at this rate, and it’s due to cats not being spayed and neutered.”

The shelter is looking for volunteers who can give 2 hours of their day to help. If you are able to make a donation or volunteer at the shelter, you can contact the shelter through their Facebook page.
