George S. McMillan

It is with a grieving heart and great sadness that we announce the passing of George McMillan on August 8, 2024 at the age of 89.

George was born in Toronto Ontario to Samuel and Nancy McMillan, November 1st, 1934 and was followed by his sister Gladys now married to (John Ellis, and they now live in Campbell River B.C.. A younger brother Bill who has since passed was born into the family and made up our family of five.

George and his dear wife Fran have been together since March 18, 1977 and enjoyed 17 years of holidaying in Florida for January, February and March following George’s retirement from the Kenora Board of Education where he taught Industrial Arts. 33 years of dedication to the students placed under his control started with 8 years at the C. J. Residential School followed by years at Evergreen and Lakewood Schools.

In his early years George spent much time with a young people’s group associated with St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Toronto. The group were involved in the church choir among other activities. Following his graduation from Danforth Technical School and a year spent working for Display Services George was approached by the president of the W.M.S. of the Presbyterian Church in Canada who asked if he would consider moving to Kenora, Ontario to work at the Cecilia Jeffrey School teaching Industrial Arts? With a positive answer the Kenora adventure began. Yes he left his home, his family and friends to begin a new life with strangers.

George spent much of his time dedicated to the well being of those who became part of his family circle. He served on the executive for the Commercial Mixed Bowling League, The Kenora Kinsmen, and 8 years as a councillor for the city of Kenora. He also spent many years as an elder for the Presbyterian Church here in Kenora.

In accordance with George and Fran’s wishes. There will be no funeral service.
