Feds are urged to intervene in Air Canada labour dispute

Chambers of Commerce on both sides of the border want the federal government to get involved in a possible strike at Air Canada.

Air Canada says it will start winding its operations as of Sunday if there is no agreement with the pilot’s union.

The US and Canadian Chambers of Commerce have released a joint statement calling on the government to intervene.

It says a work stoppage would significantly impact air travel between the two countries as well as the import and export of good through the Air Canada cargo network.

The Chambers are asking the government to take swift action to avoid another labor disruption that could negatively impact cross-border travel and trade.

The Chambers of Commerce put out a similar release recently when workers went out on strike at CN and Canandian Pacific Kansas City railroads.

The federal NDP has already said it will not support back-to-work legislation.
