Cat Shelter appeals for help from city council

A tearful appeal for assistance for the Kenora Cat Shelter.

A few weeks ago, the shelter announced it could no longer accept any more cats because it was full to overflowing with felines.

Lisa Lyle, a volunteer at the Cat Shelter, approached city council this week asking for support.

“Looking ahead, the right thing to do is have a facility that can house both dogs and cats comfortably, where they can receive care, grooming and holding them in one space until we can find them their forever homes,” Lyle told city council during a deputation at the Committee of the Whole meeting this week.

Lyle adds they can’t solve to overpopulation of cats alone.

“We are volunteers, not politicians or people who can poke the people in government who can make things happen.  We’re busy cleaning litter boxes and begging for money or homes for cats, and some of us for dogs as well.  We need guidance from our elected officials in Kenora and our surrounding communities.”

Lyle is also asking pet owners to spay or neuter their pets, so the animal population doesn’t continue to grow.
