2 new forest fires pop up in the region

The Ministry of Natural Resources says there are two new fires in the region.

A new small 0.1-hectare fire is burningĀ  21.9 kilometres northwest of Gull-Christina Conservation Reserve.

The fire named Red Lake number 47 is under control.

The other new fire is Nipigon Fire #39 which is located 9.6 kilometres north of Eabametoong First Nation.

The 0.2-hectare fire is currently being observed.

There are 29 active wildland fires in the Northwest Region, of those fires, three are being held, one is under control and 25 are being observed.

The wildland fire hazard is predominantly moderate to high across the region with patches of low hazard.
