Some contaminants have made it into the Winnipeg River.

On Tuesday evening and Monday morning, Kenora’s Wastewater Treatment Plant experienced an overflow of partially treated wastewater due to heavy rainfall and a pump failure.

Cleanup of the impacted soils and vegetation extending into the river shoreline is already underway.

“The overflow was diluted by the heavy rain flows coming into the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and then further diluted by the river waters,” said the city in a release.

The regulatory body for spills was alerted when the city was made aware of the situation.
