Officers recognized for outstanding service

Several members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service are being honoured.

The Police Service recently held its annual Awards and Service Recognition Ceremony in Thunder Bay, with a number of officers receiving special honours for outstanding service.

Constable Abigail Couce was named Officer of the Year.

She and fellow officer Constable Rob Soliman were also awarded a Lifesaving Award for saving a severely injured man’s life in Kashechwan in January 2023.

Seven other awards were also presented to officers during the NAPS (NAPS) annual awards ceremony.

Two detachments were recognized with the Investigation of the Year Award

Fort Hope officers were awarded for their investigation of a school fire in January 2023.

The investigation also received recognition from the First Nation Chiefs of Police Association (FNCPA).

The officers involved were Constables Gina White, Dylan Vickruck, Christian Kim and Kienan Shortt.

Sandy Lake officers and the Drug Enforcement Unit were honoured for their ongoing efforts to combat the illegal drug trade in the community.

Their work led to 18 arrests and more than $70,000 in drugs being seized.

The officers were Detective/Constable Eric Rego; Sergeant Matt Dugas and Constables Luke Fehr and Alex Tavares.

Community Service Alex Missewace Award – Cst. Bryan Halcro
Community Based Officer – Cst. Darryl Chapman
NCO Sgt. of the Year – Sgt. Jesse Einarson
Chief Citation for Public Award – Matthew Gull; Tara Sloss
