City launches next round of Community Improvement grants

The City of Kenora is bringing back it’s Community Improvement Plan.

An open house will be held on Wednesday afternoon at the Century 21 office on Main Street South.

Megan Dokuchie is the city’s economic development officers and says they have three main areas for the CIP: this former mill lands, the Harbourtown area, and Keewatin (Key-way-tin).

“We are accepting applications right now until to end of November,” explains Dokuchie.

“So, applications are due on November 29th.  That allows us to receive all the applications and then evaluated them all at once.”

Dokuchie says the CIP covers a number of different programs.

“The programs each have their own individual grants and incentives, though there is some overlap.  So common grants and incentive we have included in the CIP’s are facade improvement and also there is funding available for landscaping.”

Dokuchie says the actual amount of the CIP has to be determined in the 2025 budget.

It has been anywhere from $100,000 to $125,000.
