Wauzhushk Onigum Nation (Rat Portage) is planning to build a new arena.
The First Nation has received $8.6 million from the Green and Inclusive Buildings program.
It is for a Community Living and wellness center.
The building will only feature a full-size ice rink with six dressing rooms, spectator seating and a pro shop.
It will also have a running and walking track and a fitness area.
There will be a multi-purpose room, a canteen, offices and a lobby.
The band says the building will address the critical lack of recreational facilities in the community and surrounding First Nations.
The building will be designed to meet Net Zero standards.
