Lloyd Carlson
July 24, 1932 – December 28, 2024

Lloyd was born in Whitemouth, MB, and moved to Kenora, ON, in 1949.

Lloyd started with the CPR Bridge and Builder crew, transferred to the Running Trades as a trainman, and retired as a Conductor in 1987. Lloyd was a scuba diver and worked on the construction of bridges, and participated in underwater rescue/recovery. He was a skilled fiberglass fabricator, and did fiberglass repair on his off time.

It was on one of his work trips to Winnipeg that he met Donna Rogers, the love of his life. During their 69 years of marriage, they raised a family and enjoyed many hobbies together. Walking, cross-country skiing, gardening, bowling, and Caribbean cruising were their favourites. As bowlers, they were a force to be reckoned with and even competed in the Summer Senior Games. They spent countless hours tending to their garden and shared their harvest with family and friends.

Lloyd’s greatest joy in life was his family, and he loved bringing them together for Christmas breakfasts and backyard barbecues. Lloyd’s grill master skills were always a highlight, and he made certain that no one had an empty plate. Lloyd supplied the games, and his kids and grandkids have many memories of the outdoor fun had by all.

After retirement in 1987, Lloyd volunteered for many organizations – Alzheimer’s Society, CPR EFAP, KBI (Director/First Weighmaster) and Retired Railroaders Association. For many years, he sold HELPP Lottery tickets for the Hospital and Pinecrest and was still selling tickets a week before his passing. He enjoyed his time spent with the Special Olympics bowling league. He loved chatting with people wherever he went and was always ready to greet you with a handshake or a hug.

Lloyd was predeceased by his parents Mabel and Felix Carlson, sisters Lenora Toews and Shirley Dyck, and son-in-law Larry Cottam.

Lloyd will be lovingly remembered by his son Allan Carlson and daughter Judy Cottam, grandchildren Jillian (Benjamin), Garret (Chloe), Darbey (Cody), Gavin, great grandchildren Arthur and Wesley, his many nieces and nephews, cousin Ken (Delores), sisters-in-law Nelda Rogers and Jean Holmstrom, and brother-in-law Walter Gustafson.

At Lloyd’s request, no service will be held and we invite you to celebrate him in your own way. Lloyd will be cherished in our hearts for his vibrancy and kindness.
