Two babies born in the region on New Years Day

The first baby born in the region was in Sioux Lookout.

Matthew Luca Strang Keeper was born on January 1st at 7:32 a.m. at the Meno-Ya-Win Health Center.

His parents are Aidan Keeper and Ricquel Strang from the Pikagikum First Nation.

Six hours and 20 minutes later, Freya Marinoff was born at the Thunder Bay Health Sciences Center.

The parents are Kescia Yeomans and Noel Marinoff.

Their baby daughter weighed in at seven pounds, six ounces, and measuring 20 inches tall.

In both instances the mothers and babies are doing well.
