It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Ponton at the age of 75. She passed peacefully at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital on the 31st of December 2024.
She survived by her husband Bruce Ponton of 56 years, children Mark (Stephanie) Ponton their children Blaine, Aubrey & great grandchild Amelia, Jeff (Krista) Ponton and their children Jada and Tyson as well as 2 half-sisters, 4 step siblings, numerous nieces and nephews.
Linda was predeceased by her brother Barrie Giroux in 1965, father Robert Giroux in 2001, and mother Dorothy Giroux in 2011.
Linda was born in Winnipeg MB and moved to Kenora in 1959. She worked at Al Kay’s Convenient Store and Loblaws before her career as a Legal Secretary at Compton, Shewchuk , MacDonell & Ormiston. After retirement she enjoyed working as a lunchtime supervisor at PJP.
Linda enjoyed golfing, curling and travelling south to escape our winters after her retirement. She was an active member of the Kenora Legion as well as volunteering at Bethesda Lutheran Church.
Her most cherished time was with her family and grandchildren. She spent her summers camping and looked forward to the annual family camping trip at Blue Lake. She enjoyed watching grandkids play hockey and attending other activities.
The family would like to thank the Nurses and Doctors at The Lake of the Woods District Hospital as well as Thunder Bay Regional Hospital and paramedics.
A graveside service will be held for Linda at 11:00am, February 1st 2025, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Super 8, Kenora ON at 12:30pm-3:30pm.
In honour of Linda, donations to charity of choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
