The federal Liberals will hold a national board meeting to begin the process of selecting a new leader.

Sachit Mehra, the president of the Liberal Party, has called a meeting for this week, he said in a statement.

This is following after Justin Trudeau announced his intention to resign as Liberal Leader.

As of right now, Parliament is prorogued until March 24.

A recent Leger poll shows many Canadians are looking to Chrystia Freeland as a potential successor.

Other notable contenders from the survey include Mark Carney, Dominic LeBlanc, and Mélanie Joly.
