The City of Kenora is getting $5.9 million from the province for repairs to the Keewatin Channel Bridge.

Mayor Andrew Poirier says the funding will not only help with painting the bridge, but improve the intersection of Lakeview Drive by the Dairy Queen.

Work on the bridge is expected to take this year.

The funding will potentially open up the area for over 900 housing units.

It will also improve traffic flow into the former Kenora sawmill site, which has been officially sold to the Kenora Chiefs Advisory.

The 118-acre site will be the home to the new 81-unit hospital and 160-bed long term care home operated by Wiigwas.
