Municipal leaders from the region are heading Ear Falls over the next couple of days for the Kenora District Municipal Association conference.
Ear Falls mayor Kevin Kahoot is president of KDMA and says one of the things they will be talking about the disposition of crown land in several municipalities.
“I know Dryden, Machin, ourselves (Ear Falls), Red Lake, we all having issues acquiring crown land,” says Kahoot.
“The province, through the Minister and the MNR have set up different pilot projects for the disposition of crown land, but everybody seems to have different rules.”
Kahoot adds that the high cost of policing is likely one of the issues that will be discussed.
“The disparity between the lower and the higher is starting to stretch even wider apart. We got to get that checked for sure for all municipalities. You know, our budgets, for actually what we can control anymore, we can’t afford those big OPP bills for any of our municipalities.”
KDMA starts tonight and wraps up on Saturday.
