The Kenora Youth Wellness Hub is open again after undergoing renovations for the past year.
The Hub is located on Main Street with access on Bernier Drive.
Austin Tittlemier is a peer support worker and says the downstairs now has a kitchen and a food bank for anyone who attends.
“Opportunities to learn things you didn’t know, like how to cook for example,” explains Tittlemier during a tour of the facility.
“We’re going to be running food programming and stuff like that, so youth can learn, and take it home, and then they can cook it at home too.”
Tittlemier adds having the space is important so they can have all their services again in one location in downtown Kenora, because they didn’t have that for the past year, during renovations.
“It will be easier for youth to come to one spot, instead of having to find out on our social media where we are. If we are at the Youth Justice Center or the Rec. Center.”
The downstairs area also has a shower and laundry facilities, while upstairs is still used for administration and counselling services.
The Kenora facility is one of 27 across the province.
The aim is to address service gaps in youth mental health and substance abuse treatment and are for youth between the ages of 12 and 25.
