PC leader Doug Ford is taking aim at the federal government in the provincial election campaign.
While responding to reporter questions about not attending an economic summit on Canada-U.S. relations hosted by Prime Minister Trudeau.
Ford says there has been a lot of talk on the issue and that it is time the feds take action.
Ford refers to measures announced four days ago that included the creation of a Fentanyl Czar that would work with law enforcement to combat the distribution and use of fentanyl.
“It’s been four days,” says Ford.
“The federal government says we’re going to get a border czar. That’s what the Trump administration wants. What takes four days to figure this out? Announce a border czar. We need to see the helicopters in the air. We need to see the drones in the air. We need to make sure we have the boats in the water. We need to see the boots on the ground. That’s the action the Trump administration wants.”
Ford says the province had done its part by providing the Ontario Provincial Police with helicopters and drones to assist Canada Border Services and RCMP.
In the meantime, the NDP and Liberal leaders were in northern Ontario to promote their healthcare platforms.
The NDP plan includes recruiting 3,500 new doctors, with 200 family physicians and 150 specialists to work in northern Ontario.
Stiles also proposes to make it easier for 13,000 internationally-trained doctors who are ready to practice and fast-track solutions in her first 100 days in office, which lead to more family health teams, shorter specialist wait times, and flexible care options.
“After seven years of Doug Ford, 2.5 million people have no family doctor and can’t get one. Adding to the failures of the Liberals who invented hallway healthcare, Ford has made it harder than ever for families to see a doctor and get the care they need. Every day, this crisis deepens. It’s time to do something about it, says Stiles.
Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie concluded a visit to Thunder Bay by repeating a previous promise to ensure every Ontario resident has access to a family physician within four years.
Green Party leader Mike Schreiner announced plans to reduce taxes for middle and low-income earners while campaigning in Parry Sound.
“We’ve put forward a plan today to reduce taxes, cut income taxes for people earning under $65,000, households under $100,000 because that’s the kind of fairness people want, and that’s the kind of fairness we’re talking with people about at the doors,” says Schreiner.
The provincial election is on February 27th.
