It’s going to cost about a half a million dollars to repair the Keewatin Public Library.
The library has been closed since last summer, due to concerns about the roof.
Greg Breen is the Director of Engineering and Infrastructure for the City of Kenora and says the work is not just about replacing the roof.
“Removing and protecting all the contents of the building, taking the old roof structure off, including removing electrical, or plumbing…HVAC. All of that that’s up in the existing roof structure,” Breen told council at their open meeting Tuesday evening.
“Having construction services to bring in trusses, which potentially have a bit of a longer lead time.”
Breen the project will take a number of months to complete, if council decides to go ahead with it.
“That’s anticipated to be about a seven to eight month process and the costs to do that, including some other repairs that were recommended in the report, is estimated to be about a $500.000 price tag.”
The building, which used to be a grocery store, is estimated to be about 100 years old.
Another report on potential sources of revenue for the work at the Keewatin Public Library will be presented to council next month.
Members of the Keewatin Seniors Center, which shares the building with the library, were on hand to hear the report.
