Don’t expect Kenora city council to put in place a Buy Canada policy.
A number of municipalities have already endorsed the concept.
The city’s CAO Kyle Attanasio says the city actually purchases very little in the way of American products or services.
“So, I don’t want to pretend that we’ve done a detailed analysis, there’s lots of different ways bills that get paid at the city…credit cards, etc,” Attanasio told council at its open council meeting last week.
“Preliminary analysis of our vendor list indicates roughly 2 percent of our procurement is with US companies.”
Kenora Councillor Bob Bernie is vehemently against a Buy Canadian policy.
“I think it’s laughable and I’m certainly not going look inward and get on this faux Team Canada, let’s go Team Canada bandwagon.”
Attanasio adds the city’s American purchases are pretty meagre…$134,000 for goods and services and $340,000 for construction.
