Most of Highway 17 and Highway 11 have been re-opened following an early spring snowstorm.
Environment Canada has announced that all weather alerts issued for the northwestern Ontario region have also been lifted as of Thursday morning.
A section of Highway 11 remains closed east of Longlac, and a section of Highway 17 remains closed east of White River.
Cleared roads
As of Thursday morning, Highway 11/17 west of the split in Nipigon is open, the closures occurred at approximately 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday.
Highway 17 between Nipigon and Peninsula Road near Marathon is open.
Highway 17 has been reopened between Dryden and Shabaqua.
Highway 17 at Red River Road in Thunder Bay is clear as of 6:47 a.m. Thursday.
Highway 11 from Fort Frances to Nipigon and Highway 11 from Atikokan to Shabaqua are also now open.
Highway 17 at the Harbour Expressway in Thunder Bay has also reopened.
Highway 11 between Nipigon and Secondary Highway 584 near Geraldton was opened around 9:45 a.m. on Thursday.
The Ministry of Transportation noted poor weather conditions as the cause of the closures.
Environment Canada previously issued a Winter Storm and Snowfall Warnings for much of northwestern Ontario Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
