A fundraising bike ride to raise awareness of a rare autoimmune disease is passing through northwestern Ontario.
Tyler Ashton stopped in Kenora as part of his Electrify AS bike ride.
He says he’s trying to raise awareness of the disease and has enjoyed great support.
“You know I receive kindness and generosity from complete strangers throughout this entire trip,” says Ashton during a stop in Kenora this week.
“It’s been life-changing to say the least, to know that there’s good people out there but still want to help other human beings.”
Ashton started his ride on March 1st in BC, mostly to raise awareness for A.S., but also do some fundraising as well.
“It’s called Ankylosing Spondylitis. So, my hope is I will be able to make enough noise in the world, that more people will hear about it. Because more people have AS than ALS, MS, and RA combined, yet it remains relatively unknown.”
He adds the biggest challenge is stopping once a week, in a community where he can get a shot for his AS.
Ashton began his bike ride in BC on March 1st and plans to continue across Canada, and back across eastern Canada until he finishes his ride at the end of July.
