A new animal welfare fund has been set up in Kenora called the Leo Project.
It’s to help those without means to cover veterinary bills.
Celine Ward is one of the vets at the Kenora Veterinary Clinic and says there is a definite need for this type of service.
“We have had a grassroots animal welfare fund at the Kenora Veterinary Clinic, and this has helped reduced costs of veterinary bills by about $100,000 in total over the last 12 months,” explains Ward.
Ward adds they just started up Project Leo this month.
“We’ve known there has been a significant gap in care that we see on the frontlines of our clinic. Obviously rising costs of everything right now, and vet bills are no exception right now and veterinary bills are very, very high.”
Ward says the Leo Project helps cover a wide variety of veterinary medical bills, from spaying and neutering, from the treatment of ear infections, vaccinations, and tick prevention.
