Jerry Land, a resident of Wiigwas Elder and Senior Care passed away on peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
He was predeceased by his father Robert Land Sr. mother Maggie Land, sisters, Nellie Beaver, Lillian Swain, brothers, Robert Land Jr., Hector Land, nephews, Jeff Kokopenace, Terrance Kent, niece Marcia Land, adopted brother “Jim Young”, his late partner Audrey Assin.
He is survived by his brother Fred Land, wife Rita Kokopenace, relatives from Whitedog George Land and family, Albert Land and family, Tom Land and family, adopted daughters “Delana Land” and “Natasha Assin” and numerous family. His nieces and nephews Randall, Kenny, Freddie, Lucy, Ryan, Rita, Chris, Stephanie, Mary Ann, Marla, Lillian, John Clint.
He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, great grandkids Billy Bishop, Kiera, Willow, Waylon, Fred Jr., Hailey, Breanna, Lil Ryan, Bonnie, Chrissy, Terri, Jessica, Adrienne, Crystal, Amanda, Deanna, Vanessa, Misty, Jolene, Charlton, Russell, Chelsea, Jeff Jr., Drew, Justice, Ainsley, Maggie, Toby, Kenneth, Kelly, and many more.
Jerry was a band member from Whitedog but lived in Grassy Narrows all his life. He grew up as a guide at Ball Lake, Grassy Lodge, Delaney Lake, Great Bear lodge of NWT. He loved hunting and fishing. After guiding he was a pulp cutter for the band of Grassy Narrows. Although Jerry didn’t have any children of his own, he adopted “Delana Land” as his daughter along with her children. He had a huge family in Grassy Narrows and in Whitedog which were the Land, Swains, Ashopenaces, Keewatins, Kokopenace and more. Jerry was always a mama’s boy, so he always stayed close to his mom “maagii”. Jerry’s love of the river and land is what kept him in his homeland of Grassy Narrows. He loved his family and grandchildren very much.
A wake service will begin on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Trappers Building in Grassy Narrows. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Trappers Building in Grassy Narrows with burial to follow.
