Mark Carney and President Trump agree they should work together.
According to the Prime Minister’s office, both leaders spoke on the phone on Tuesday.
Trump congratulated Carney on the election win, and both agree they should help each other as independent, sovereign nations, the office said.
The two leaders plan to meet in person in the near future.
The U.S. State Department said in a statement that Trump looks forward to working with Carney.
But earlier in the day, the White House told the Canadian Press that Trump still plans to make Canada the 51st state.
