The Fellow in Yellow has made the journey to Thunder Bay.

Trevor Redmond has been running across Canada since March 26, 2024.

“I ran from Halifax up through Nova Scotia, into Newfoundland, across Newfoundland, down back the other side of Cape Breton into Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec,” explained Redmond. “And when I got to Ontario, I took a little bit of a dip to Niagara Falls, Windsor up into London, and then winter started hitting at about December, and that kind of slowed me down a bit. The weather’s getting nice, and I went on a burn and here I am in Thunder Bay.”

By the time he reached Thunder Bay, he was over 6,700 kilometres into his journey across Canada, which is only roughly 5,500 km wide.

His goal is not a specific number of kilometres, but to inspire his fellow Canadians.

“Hopefully, I can run around the hearts and minds of every Canadian,” said Redmond. “I want to lift people’s spirits. I want them to exercise their minds, their bodies and spirits. In fact, I want people to move. The more we move, the more we move others. And if we’re able to move together and encourage people and ourselves to just move, move, move. We’ll be a lot healthier for it.”

Redmond’s dream of running across the country started as what he called a hospital dream.

At 15, he was hit by a car and almost lost his leg, leading to a significant recovery.

“When you have something like that happens, with such significance as a kid you don’t forget,” explained Redmond. “And I said at one point as a teenager, if I can do something that can help the world as an adult, I’ll go and do it. And then as an adult, I forgot and you move on from those dreams.”

“When I remembered my hospital dream at the age of, well, 34, I said, there’s no turning back. I’m going to go out and I’m going to walk across Canada and I covered 11,421 kilometres. Then a couple of years later, that dream kept going, with 14,632 kilometres of a bike ride across Canada, this dream is undefeated as I am. By the time I leave Ontario, I’ll be beyond 7000 kilometres.”

Once he leaves Thunder Bay, he plans on heading up Highway 17 towards Ignace.

“Let’s move. This is the movement for movement,” said Redmond. “I want people to put courage into their healthcare, be courageous, think about your own recovery, think about your health, your mobility, your recovery.”
