After a slow start, the forest fire season in northwestern Ontario is starting to heat up.
The fire hazard in most of the region is in the high to extreme range.
There are five active wildfires, two fires are not under control, one fire is being held and two fires are under control.
The two out of control fires are in the Kenora District in the Clearwater Bay area near Rice Bay Road and the other 17 kilometers southwest of Sioux Narrows on an island in Obabikon Lake
Both are small, under 0.2 hectares in size.
There is also one fire in the Atikokan area yesterday that required help from the Atikokan Fire Rescue and the MNR.
It was located about 12 kilometers from the community.
