It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear uncle, shoomis, great grandpa, relative and friend, Eric Arnold Mandamin, who left us peacefully while surrounded by loved ones on May 7, 2025, at the age of 74 in Kenora, Ontario.

Eric has gone home to the spirit world to be reunited with many loved ones including, his beloved wife, Marie Mandamin; parents, Margaret and Arnold Mandamin; siblings, Albert Sr., Delores, Esther, Colleen, and Linda as well as many other family, friends, relatives, and ancestors.

Eric is lovingly remembered by his loved ones and community especially Sharon and family, his many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends, all of whom will miss his presence, wisdom, and quiet strength.

Eric was born, raised and a proud community member of Iskatewizaagegan 39 Independent First Nation. Eric lived a life full of love and adventure. A skilled carpenter by trade, and a lover of the outdoors, he found joy in building, exploring, and connecting with the land. His life reflected strength, resilience, and a deep respect for nature and community. He will be remembered for his kindness, stories, and sense of humour. We are sad to see you go, but grateful for the memories, jokes, and teachings shared with us. Eric’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

The family extends special gratitude to the medical staff at Hamilton General Hospital Burn Unit ICU, Neuro/Trauma Unit ICU, Marjorie Bearinger, Cassie Camara, Lake of the Woods District Hospital, and ORNG for caring for Eric with great dignity, thoughtfulness and gentleness.

A huge Miigwech to Sherri, George, Gerald, Celina and Sandra for being by Eric’s side while receiving care in Hamilton. Your presence brought great comfort and love to Eric and is valued beyond measure. Many expressions of gratitude to family for their prayers and fundraising efforts to ensure Eric was not alone while in hospital. Also, many Miigweches to everyone who extended kind thoughts and gestures during this difficult time – they have not gone unnoticed and are greatly appreciated.

A wake will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the Iskatewizaagegan 39 Community Centre, beginning at 12:00 p.m. A traditional funeral ceremony led by Elder Howard Copenace will take place the following morning on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow. Pallbearers will be family and friends of Eric.
