Jim Tooke

We wish to announce the passing of Jim Tooke on May 6, 2025. Born on Aug. 7, 1932, in Albert County, N.B. Lived and went to School in Minto, N.B. In Nov. 1948 he started work as a teenager in the Coal Mines.

In 1951 he left home for Ontario, to work in a furnace room at Electro Metals in Welland, Ont. On July 21,1953 he started with Ont. Hydro at Decew Falls. At Ont. Hydro he worked in St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Port Colborne, Fraserdale, Hunta and Kenora, where he retired in 1988.

He was predeceased by his parents Austin & Carrie Tooke, sister Joan Wilson, his daughter Karen, former wife Eileen, and late wife Laura

He is survived by his brother Sterling (Shannon). Sons: Michael, James Douglas (Sarah), Robert (Trish), Rick Maranda (Yvonne), Jonathan, daughter Juanita Pencoff. Stepchildren: Vernon, Colleen (Dwayne), Andrew (Wendy) and Candace (Todd). Former common law partner Marie, former wife Barbara. He is also survived by several Grand Children & Great Grand Children.

He was very active as a community volunteer. Some groups he was involved with in Kenora: his church, Norman Community Club; Kenora Minor Hockey, Agriculture Society, Kenora Board of Education, Moose Lodge, Cursillo Movement, Can. Power Squardron, Ont. Senior Centres, Kenora in Bloom, Municipal Non- Profit Housing, Pinecrest Home Family Council. In 1985 & 2003 he was awarded the Senior of the Year Award. He also received other awards for his volunteer work, which he enjoyed working with others.

The Family wishes to thank Benidickson Court Tenant’s Ass’n., Men’s Coffee Group, The Puzzle Group, Janis Robertson and all her Caregivers. Also Brown’s Funeral Home.

Cremation has taken place, there will be no service as he requested. The family will get together at a later date.
